5Pioneer SC-63 hits the right notes.
By Jim Chiodo
I have had several top end receivers and components over the years and this Pioneer is the first one that I underestimated. It will absolutely play loud enough to hurt my ears, not that I would want to do that ofcourse. But the quality of sound is impressive. This receiver replaced a Denon AVR-5803 that would not pass a 3D signal to my projector. I did not want to spend what I had spent on the Denon nearly a decade ago and thought I would have to compromise in sound quality. I was wrong. This is the best sounding receiver I have had. Whether listening to classical on SACD or The Rolling Stones "Shine a Light" on Blu Ray, the sound is focused yet airy. There is dynamic headroom to spare. And when it comes to bells and whistles, the SC-63 has all kinds of them. I can go outside, turn on Zone 2 from my iPhone and stream from my iPhone, listen to Pandora from the receiver, select from thousands of songs that are on the thumb drive I plugged into the receiver or any of several other sources. Bottom line is, I bought it and love it and I haven't wished I had bought something else instead, which is what I usually do...

4Unanticipated great features/ some lacking
By R. Hosie
Upgraded from ONkyo/Integra 8.8 mainly due to new 3D HDMI standard and the annoying HDMI channel clicking from the INTEGRA lines- (I hear still occurs with newer models...).What I was really surprised with: I hooked my Samsung 8000 series 3D screen from the ARC port to the reciever- The TV remote now controls the receivers volume without programming. Amazingly enough, If I turn the receiver on while the TV is on, the TV automatically mutes and all sound goest through receiver. When I am done watching the TV, I push the TV remote Power button-- The receiver goes in standby also.---AWESOME!Setup was also awesome! I installed the software on my laptop, sat on the couch and made all the tedious setup from the laptop--software very self intuitive. The only thing I manually setup on the receiver was the HDMI passthrough so that I can watch regular TV without the receiver on when I am attempting to let the wife sleep in or so ;)Great sound through my Bose 5.1 Acoustimass 10 III system... One thing I did notice, the manual states to plug the subwoofer into the regular subwoofer port--- My subwoofer was not detected when I did that, but did get it to detect by plugging the subwoofer into the Preout 1 port.Three draw backs I see so far:1) The hookups for ipod connection is on the front- behind the front cover.... how lame is that? I would rather have my cables plugged in the rear so I can run the 1 ipod connector to wherever I want to hook up the iPod. Now you have to consider either keeping the front panel always open/or remove the front panel cover some how (if anyone knows how to do without breaking, please let me know) to keep the ipod connectors plugged in all the time... or constantly unplug/replug back in the connectors when you use your ipod-kind of a lame design overlook there.2) As an advanced user, I would expect that I could plug my HDMI cable in any HDMI port and then easily assign that HDMI port to my component in the computer program. Instead, I have to rename the factory generic component that currently has the HDMI assigned to it... Also, in the future, if you want to just assign a prt/cable etc to a new component-- the computer software program makes you run through the whole setup program (including speakers, etc) just to assign a new component...Unless I just am not seeing a quick way to add a new component???3) for this price, should have a USB input port on back to plug in external HD....just saying

5Great Receiver
By Jimmy Hoffa
I had an SC-05 which was a good receiver. After I purchased a 3D TV, I needed to upgrade my receiver. The SC-63 has a fuller sound in all speakers that my old receiver and is about 1/2 the weight of the SC-05. Make sure you install the software that comes with it into a pc for help in setting it up. The help files are necessary.
