It's a 7.1 channel home receiver with AM/FM radio, 4 HDMI input ports, 3 stereo RCA inputs, USB and SD ports for digital music playback, and 2 microphone inputs for announcements and karaoke. It even acts as an HDMI switcher for your HD-enabled devices and television. Pushes 300 watts max on the left and right channels, plus 50 on each of the four surrounds and center channel. 7 speaker outputs and one line out for the subwoofer. VFD display shows station frequency. Short circuit and over voltage protection keeps your equipment secure.

Poor quality

I just received the Pyle Home PT980AUH 7.1 Receiver. I thought it was a great buy for 170 bucks and got 2 day shipping.Well, when I opened the box, the units on/off power button was pushed in. I tried to reset it - but no luck at all. I plugged it in and it appeared to work but with the switch stuck in the on position I would never be able to manually turn it off. The tuner knob was also slightly bent so it would bind when it was turned. It also has a scratch on the top that looks like someone touched up with a black marker.Looking at the product, it appears to be cheaply made and does not have very many choices for hook-ups on the back. I am returning it for a Sony. I figure you get what you pay for.

Pleasantly surprised - best bang for the buck

So my Harman Kardon AVR-120 starts switching off occasionally - annoying. I was not prepared to fork out a lot of money to replace it so I thought to myself - let me try this Pyle system. Just wanted to check it out - if it didn't work out I wouldn't lose much.When it arrived I wasn't surprised with its appearance - nothing to brag about. Reluctantly I disconnected the Harman Kardon and stored it away.I hooked up the Pyle to my Cerwin Vega speaker system (with active sub-woofer) and powered it on. Wow, wow, wow - the sound! I am not qualified audiophile - but I know a good sound. I relish classical music because of its natural composites and no frills arrangements. I distinctly hear all the pieces of instrument distinctly - such purity. You won't be disappointed listening to other genres either. This low-cost system does not disappoint. The best you'll get in surround sound on the equipment is Dolby Pro Logic II and AC-3. You get this with the HDMI connections. This sure sounds much better than my Harman - with all its many more features and settings. Obviously, not all of them were that great and needed.Another great feature on the Pyle is the cluster of HDMI connections (4 inputs and 1 output), allowing you to connect your HDMI devices, capturing the audio before passing on the video to your television/monitor. I could say more but I got to wrap-upThere are some cons though:The front panel does look a little cheap - the prints are not what you'll find on mid to high-end devices.The manual is barebones - with not much on the specifications of the system. For example, I wanted to find the frequency range to know the lowest frequency to determine the crossover frequency for the speaker system. I had to assume it to be 40Hz. I couldn't believe it, but is nowhere to be found - not even online.There is no fiber or coaxial input. Really? Are you kidding me? I am forced to use RCA connection for audio back from my TV.The remote looks and feels cheap...okay I getting silly and really picky now. I was not expecting 'bells and whistles' at this price.Someone gave this system a 1 out 5 because the power on/off button was stuck in the on position. That would not deter me from purchasing this device. That is mechanical damage and not a characteristic of any device. I got mine without any damage at all. Oh...did I mention that this device has a cooling fan that really works in keeping the equipment frigid. Okay not exactly - but really cool. My Harman Kardon would get so hot after a few minutes powered on, you could fry an egg on it.

There when I want the power

I don't often need to have much power, usually just use the tuner to listen to my religious programs, but once in a while I want to hear a full range of sound from all corners of the house. Having this 7.1 amp takes care of those once in a while needs, and never fail to amaze me how much power they create. I can even use it for karaoke if I want, since it has mic inputs, but I really love to hear praise and worship throughout the house from this great system.
