I bought this for $500, it came with a surge protector and HDMI cable for free. Love the surge protector. The HDMI cable was a cheepo and has allready been thrown away, those are not the reasons for only 4 stars though. This product interacts with my philips smart tv brilliantly. manual set-up was standard for a reciever. The only thing I don't like is that the thing will shut off if it is not playing sound, I use my tv as a monitor for my desktop. I have had difficulty with it seeing components that are connected, like if if I want to switch to my blu-ray player. Luckily the tv outputs sound to it, so I just plugged my computer directly into my tv. The manual is useless and the menu of the player is not user friendly. If my tv did not output to it I would have probably sent it back. The sound quality is great. I have a kef 5.1 sourround sound speaker system, supllemented by some pioner 4 voice car audio speakers for my front left and right. The bass on the kef can rattle the walls on this reciever. It sounds good. I listen to a wide range of music and such. I am by no means a music guru, this is my first home audio system, and I a pleased with how it performs.some total of what I am saying: good sound quality, easier with a smart tv, not user friendly.
