Rated at 140 watts x 9 channels is a lot of power but is not the whole story. Where the SC-55 really shows its unprecedented power output capability is when driving multi-channels simultaneously without losing significant per-channel output. Class A/B amplifiers simply cannot match the efficiency of Class D3 as their power output per channel diminishes rapidly when more channels are added to the work-load. This kind of unprecedented power capability allows you to appreciate the full dynamics from any media source in a way never before possible. The ability to drive more channels, simultaneously, means you can fully reproduce all of the dynamics and impact of high definition multi-channel Dolby and DTS soundtracks with up to 9 channels of the highest quality power output available today.

Pioneer adds an extra dimension to the SC-55 by being the only multi-channel Class-D amplifier manufacturer to be awarded the coveted THX Select 2 Plus certification for the ultimate immersive surround sound experience for rooms up to 2000 square feet.
This is particularly meaningful to home theater enthusiasts. Filmmakers mix their audio tracks at a "Reference Level" of 85dB. This level is the basis for THX certification engineering and performance. The SC-55 can produce this level with all channels driven, meeting and exceeding THX performance requirements while maintaining our signature sound.
Of course, the SC-55 also supports high-definition audio formats like Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD® Master Audio, as well as new DTS NEO:X surround, providing a 3-D surround experience for up to 11.1 channels

Wonderful upgrade...

I limit major home theater upgrades to once every ten years. That said, my previous Pioneer Elite VSX-37TX still runs great, although features have improved siginificantly. So, out with the old Elite, and in with the new Elite. This reciever is amazing! The nine 140watt class D amplifiers inside, of which I am running seven, truthfully only bearly get warm after running them hard for some time... wow. The audio sound stage detail is very crisp and distinct. And the video processing the unit can perform, is amazing.I'm am more the fully satisfied with this purchase, and would do it again.

From Pioneer's web site:Pioneer does NOT offer a manufacturer's limited warranty for products purchased from anyone who is not an authorized dealer and it does NOT offer rebates or other special opportunities for products purchased from anyone who is not an authorized dealer. Pioneer does NOT authorize any dealers to sell Elite-branded products on the Internet (only in-store sales are permitted). Pioneer is not able to identify all persons and companies who claim to be authorized Pioneer dealers. Pioneer has been able to identify the following persons and companies who are NOT authorized Pioneer dealers: Valley TV (California) New World Electronics (California)Having said that, this AVR is incredible - nice clean sound, plenty of connections for your source components, and endlessly configurable. I will expand this review at a later date.

Pioneer sc-55 Power Unit Damaged 3 days later (Updated)

For now, i give it a 2 star rating and here is why:I have purchased the SC 55 after rigorous research and reading about this receiver and the great feedback it was getting from everyone.The day i opened the box, the A/C cable kept on getting unblugged from the the SC 55 unit and was too loose to stay connected.I contacted the seller and he recommended that i widen the connection prawns on the back of the receiver to make the A/C cable connector stay connected to the back of the unit.I did not want to tamper with the unit at all , so i did NOT do what i was told by the seller.3 Days later, the unit is displaying a this Issue:the receiver powered off and started flashing the Advanced Mcacc LED started flashing in the front of the Unit.I went back to the Trouble shooting section of the Manual, Page 83....turns out that this issue is a common issue and reported that the Power Unit is Damaged and need to unplug the receiver from the wall and contact a pioneer Authorized independent service center.I Loved the receiver when it worked, the sound is beyond what i expected it to be....i had connected a 9.1 surround and man that was awesome.I understand problems do happen with electronics, i am waiting to see what the seller is going to do with the claim reported in this issue.I will update this review once i get an answer back from the seller and hopefully this issue gets resolved.UPDATE: My Replacement receiver has come in Today, I was very ready to plug and play after all the initial setup process of course....Sadly , The Front Right Speaker connectors on the back of the receiver are NOT WORKING....i am REALLY Frustrated and filled with anger at this point.One conclusion comes to Mind, Infinity Sales is re-selling REFURBISHED Products and not NEW as advertised ?IT IS MY 2nd Unit from them, and this one is 30 minutes of SETUP Use and i am not able to get any speaker to work with the Front Right connectors.I am returning it and getting a NEW Receiver and Pay MORE but i know is an Authorized dealer and close to home.My 2 stars go to 1 and now i am taking it up with Amazon and Infinity sales.By the Way, Infinity sales has no Phone number to contact, no warehouse to locate....it is an apartment unit that my returned unit went back to.BEWARE.
