Does not upsample, user interface not intuitive, sounds good

This receiver sounds good, is very reasonably priced, but it's not quite what I was expecting.Reading the description of this unit, and looking at its back panel pictures, left me with the impression it probably can output video to an HDMI TV, regardless of the input source selected ("upsampling"). It cannot. It does not upsample, and cannot send, say, your component video input source to your HDMI TV. Yamaha support (who got back to me quickly, I must admit), says "it does not do any up converting of video sources, you would have to run the component video out to [a component input] TV as well."I also found the setup less than intuitive; others have commented on the lack of a printed manual, and I must agree that I found myself missing it as I tried to determine how best to configure my speakers and resolve my upsampling question.So, bottom line, be aware of its limitations, but if you're fine with what it does and doesn't do, it seems to be a nice value.

Decent Unit

Purchased this unit to go along with my Yamaha speaker set. It works great and has many features. I had some issues setting it up though. I eventually got things sorted out. The instructions are on a CD format, which I think is a poor choice. I had to go back and forth from my computer. The unit is pretty large, so keep that in mind if you have little space.

I recently purchased the Yamaha HTR-3063BL 5.1 Channel 500 Watt AV Receiver (Each, Black) from Amazon.com. I love the receiver. It has wonderful sound and more options than I'll ever use. What I like the most about it is that it was very easy to set up. As I get older (48 Years old) I find it increasingly difficult to keep up with what is new in electronics. The HDMI connections make it easy to connect your DVD/Blu-Ray player to the TV and the Optical wire makes it easy to connect your TV to the receiver to get all of your TV programs in stereo.In checking comparable units, my local Best Buy had this same Yamaha receiver in stock and for sale at a price of $329.00, one hundred dollars more than I paid for it on line. They had a 500 Watt Receiver without AM/FM for $229.00. Once again, the unit is wonderful - and the price was right!The one thing I did not like about my purchase was the online users manual - it was not as user friendly as an old fashioned paper manual. I would like to see Yamaha get rid of the CD manual and replace it with a real paper manual (booklet).The other issue I had with this product was how it was delivered to my home. Amazon sent it Fedex. To my dismay, Fedex dropped my package off on my door step, out side my home. I was very angry about this and Fedex was indifferent to my concern and I have not been able to reach Amazon for a comment. Had it been raining - the unit would have been damaged, as is, someone could have walked up to my doorstep and taken the package right off my doorstep and I would never have known it had been delivered. Because of Fedex's lack of concern, and Amazon.com's ability to shelter themselves from customer complaints - I do not plan to make another purchase of this size and cost again through Amazon. Both Fedex and Amazon seem to pass the buck on the shipping concern.Shame on Amazon and Fedex for their lack of customer care!!!!!!Larry Volk
