Great receiver, but lacks component to hdmi conversion

Love the receiver, great sound, great for input control. The sound is booming and makes all games and movies come to life. Love the room acoustic controls that sets your speakers up just right. Biggest downfall is the fact it cannot do component to HDMI for I have HDMI to my TV from the receiver. Had to run the component devices to the receiver to a separate component input on my TV. Not a huge issue but that was not defined in any of the Yamaha documentation, nor on Amazon.com. That's where the Logitech Harmony comes in good, it'll automatically change the inputs for ya w/little interaction, but can be a concern for some.

Natural sound. Crystal clear. Sufficient power.

I replaced my old Onkyo HTR-520 with this one. My Onkyo had stopped responding to the remote a long time back. I found a good deal on the Yamaha at Amazon. The Onkyo was all about power. However, i must say that the Yamaha beats it in sound quality. Music sounds astonishingly natural. Vocals sound so clear and natural. I could even hear the singers take their breath. Very impressive. It has a THD of less than 0.06% below 50 watts. you would not possibly want to hear music above 50 watts on each channel. Sound is well balanced. The 7-Channel Enhancer algorithm is superb. I give 5 stars.

No analog to digital conversion????

I'm sending this receiver back as I am totally dissatisfied with it. Everything was fine as I attached it via HDMI to my Samsung TV, then added in a Samsung Blu-Ray player via HDMI. But, when I attached my daughter's Wii to the several component video connectors, the trouble started. I got sound from the Wii but not video. Blaming the Wii, I tinkered and tinkered. I tried the Wii in the AV5, AV6, and Aux connections that all have r/l audio as well as video connections. No luck. Finally, I got out a couple of camcorders and used their component cables to the received as I had with the Wii. No video! I called Yamaha support. The representative said, "Oh, you can hook up component video, but you'll have to run a component video cable from the receiver to the tv." What???? How silly is that? I thought he was kidding, but he assured me that I would have to buy a more expensive Yamaha receiver to get that feature. Okay, but why would Yamaha even put component connections on an HDMI receiver if they won't transmit a video signal to HDMI out????? Ridiculous!!! No analog to digital conversion on this receiver that is COVERED with analog hook-ups! I think this is deceiving on the part of Yamaha -- I never would have guessed that to be the case (and the Amazon product description did not provide a clue to this flaw).Plan to hook up anything with component (analog) video such as a Wii, Ps2, camcorder, etc.? STAY AWAY from this under-engineered gimmick! If all you care about is hooking up an HDMI DVD player, you'll be fine.Oh yeah, I'll not be replacing this receiver with a more expensive Yamaha. My other receivers are Denon, and they work great in any configuration!!!!
