If tv stand space is limited, Marantz has you covered

First off, the only reason I purchased this was because my TV stand can only accomodate 5" or less height devices.At 4 inches it fits nice and still can get air flow.It works pretty straight foward and the mic setup worked great in my room. I used five listening positions and sounds great in all of them.I must say it was a bit confusing with the Audio Return Channel and the Standby Pass through features.Standby pass through in this unit is too complicated you can either1.pick the last input you used2.specific input all the timeSo if you want to just watch TV/play a game w/o surround sound and the receiver is set to a different input you have to1.turn on the receiver2.then select the input3.then you can turn off the receiver.If you don't do this no image will come on.AdverselyIf Passthrough is set to specific input then that's all it will passthrough and you have to turn the receiver on for all other inputs.I'm not sure if this the case with all newer receivers but it's annoying.I did have some small issues with Audio Return and Samsung Anynet+ but thanks to AVSforum was able to sort it out.Other than that, the system is a breeze to setup speaker wise and sounds great.

Runs COOL - NOT hot !!

Hi Everyone,I've had the Marantz NR1402 for about 10 months and I love it. The newer model is the NR1403 receiver. Itis essentially the same as the NR1402. You've read the other reviews for the NR1403, so I won't repeatthose, but for me the most important feature:THE RECEIVER RUNS COOL - NOT HOT - EVEN MOUNTED INSIDE AN ENCLOSED CABINET!My receiver is mounted in a floor cabinet in a space 21" wide, 19" deep, and only 5" high (closed inthe back). That means that there is only 3/4" above the top of the receiver and there is very littleventilation. I tested the receiver on several medium-loud movies, and it never got hot - barely warm.In fact, you can leave it on all day and it still runs cool. My previous Pioneer behemoth ran so hotthat I had to place it behind the cabinet in a wide open space. And it still ran too hot to the touch!Highly recommended !!Tom K.

I recently set-up a nice stereo system in a bedroom. It's not a large room and the system is not designed for ear-splitting volume levels. I chose this unit based primarily on it's compact size and Marantz's reputation. I have not been dissapointed.This AVR is compact. The styling is simple and attractive. The materials and contsruction all seem to be high quality. The compact size makes this unit ideal for a smaller room setting (bedroom, office, den, etc).It is very easy to set up. It offers the option of automatic set up via Audyssey or completely manual set up. Either way, the on-screen menus are logically arranged and the instructions are easy to follow.In keeping with it's compact nature and simple interface, this is not a highly featured AVR. It supports only 5.1 channels (no 7.1 available, no Zone 2 speakers). It does not offer network connectivity. It is relatively low powered (50 W per channel), although I have not found this to be an issue in my smallish room.For reference, I am using this AVR to drive a pair of Martin Logan Motion 4 bookshelf speakers and a Martin Logan Dynamo 300 subwoofer.Best Features:-Outstanding Sound Quality-Compact Size-Quality Fit and Finish-Simple, Easy to Use Interfaces-6 HDMI InputsDrawbacks:-Minimalist feature set-Only 5.1 channels-No network connectivity-Only video connections other than HDMI are composite (no component), which may be an issue with older video players or game consoles.-Some features can be accessed only via remoteSummary:The Marrantz NR-1403 Compact AVR is an ideal solution for achieving high quality audio where a minimalist set up is desired. The sound quality is truly outstanding and the lack of a full feature-set can be forgiven in exchange for the compact size and ease-of-use that this unit provides. Highly Recommended.
